Most of us have the habit of praying everyday. Some of us light candles and incense sticks in front of God, some of us offer him food, some of us chant hymns. Some of us visit religious sites. The method for us may differ and so may the objectives. Some of us seek peace, some of us seek strength, some of us want our desires to be fulfilled. But for a lot us, the prayers remain more of a artificial act than a deep inner connect with the God. Most of the time we feel distracted by our thoughts even when we pray. Often, when we reach God we go with our problems. We believe he is the supreme invisible power who can run a magic wand and solve our issues. But by doing so, we also form a distance between him and us. We always consider him superior to us. Since we have not seen him, we cannot form a connect with him. And sometimes, our mind even has doubts if he exists.

A few weeks ago, I met a spiritual lady and shared my distractions with her. She gave me a very simple way to connect and have conversation with God. She gave me the power of thank you. She suggested I start thanking him for every small and big good thing which happens to me in the day. It sounded simple and I wanted to give it a try. I had read a lot about the power of gratitude, so I was all excited to experiment with this talking to God everyday to thank him.

At first, I felt there was not much I could thank him for. Some days were hard at work and some hard in the personal sphere. My thank you statements were filled with doubts and desires. But then, slowly the thank yous became more natural ; thanking him if the meal just tasted right, if the weather was just perfect, if I bought something, if me and mom had a good day and many more such small little moments of joy, happiness and bliss.

As time progressed, I felt a deep peace. I did not know feel I was connecting or talking to God only for 5–10 minutes in the morning but rather he was a friend always alongside me. The sense of gratitude throughout the day has helped me become less complaining, less criticizing and more accepting of everything and everyone around me.

My conversations with God have now become more regular, natural and engaging. I have found God in gratitude.
