After a long time, me and my husband decided to have a dinner date. All this while, we had been going out with our parents. That meant traditional food, less experimentation. Dosas and north Indian chaats had become the de-facto. And today, after long , we decided to go out without them. I was having a craving for sizzlers and had vaguely remembered seeing sizzlers being served at a nearby restaurant. So we headed to that place. What followed was an adventurous evening.

The place was serving vegetarian platter in the name of sizzler. No, we wanted to have a proper sizzler. We started calling restaurants. Some showed they were open but no one picked the call. Some who picked were not serving sizzlers. We thought of taking our chance and headed to the happening streets of Indranagar. After all, if there was one place where such exotic foods were easy to find, it was Indranagar. We knew once we were there, some or the other restaurant on the street would be serving sizzlers.

At Indranagar, the first place that we knew would serve sizzlers was primarily a brewery. Bangalore had just opened serving liquor a few days ago. And the crowd had gone crazy. The line outside the brewery was behaving as if free unlimited liquor was being served there. Realizing that we had no chance of finding a table there, we started checking out the other restaurants on the lane. Some had not opened up due to the pandemic. Others did not serve sizzlers. We called a few restaurants in the vicinity. But then, it seemed we would have to either eat something else or go home hungry.

My husband asked me if I wanted to have a dosa. No, I said. Dosa was something we always had anyway when we came out with parents. Lebanese food? Not too fully sure of what Lebanese food options were and whether it would have a lot of cheese, I asked my husband if we could go home and eat something. By this time, hunger had taken over me. And we had our share of fun in the evening. We laughed to imagine what the different hotel staff would be talking about us as they saw us pass multiple times in the indecisive mode. As always, my husband was okay with anything I chose.

I then changed my mind and told him that there was a nearby chaat shop and we could go eat something there. After all, who wanted to go home and cook something, even if a quick one. We went to that shop. They were pulling down their shutters. We asked the hotel owner if we could get some food. After five minutes of checking with his kitchen, he allowed us over and told us to place a quick order. I told my husband that the club in our residential complex served sizzlers and though we did not go there today because we truly wanted to go out; we should go there tomorrow. My craving for sizzlers had gone up after today’s episode.

Just when we opened the menu of the hotel to order something. And to our delight, the menu said the place served sizzlers; that too of many varieties. We both looked at each other and smiled. It was 10 PM. The restaurant was about to close. Hesitantly, we asked if they served the sizzlers on their menu. They did! The person said we could have our choice of it. I felt like a small kid whose parents just got them a toy.

After 3 hours of hunting for it, our search ended at the most unexpected place. And we had one of the tastiest sizzlers in a family restaurant. What a sizzling experience! Thank you Uthra, Indranagar. We will be back!
